Core aims of the Department:
- To equip students with key skills of a humanities education, including the ability to write clearly and effectively, to analyse carefully, to reason correctly, and to exercise critical judgement, which can be applied in subsequent careers,
- To help students develop as independent thinkers and lifelong learners
- To introduce students to the study of philosophy primarily in the traditional Indian Philosophy and Western tradition, and to the demands of philosophical inquiry,
- To introduce the student to reading critically the great philosophers, from past to present in contemporary Philosophy.
Objectives:
- Knowledge and understanding of the main areas: • of history of Indian and Western Philosophy; • of Philosophy of Mind; •of Logic; • theoretical and applied Ethics; •of the key features of philosophical practice.
- Discipline-specific skills: Students should be able to: •engage critically in philosophical debate both verbally and in their writing, using the tools of critical analysis to present and critique the arguments of others, and to formulate persuasive arguments in defence of their own views.
- Transferable skills: Students should be able to: • think and write clearly and carefully about complex issues and arguments; • access appropriate resources, e.g., via the internet; • manage their time and workload; • take a self-reflective attitude to their own professional and personal development.
Special Achievement of the Department:
As a new born Department, there are only four successful passed out batches since2014.
1. The first batch those who are passed out in 2017, among 7 students 2 are selected for PG Course. In fact, they are the only students from our college took admission directly in PG Course. 2. The Second batch those who are passed out in 2018, among 11 students 5 are selected for PG Course. Although only 4 students took admission in PG. This was the highest number from any single department who achieved this success in our college still then.
Seminar/Webinar organized:
There are Two Departmental Seminar organized in 2019 Academic Year. And there were Two periodical Lecture Series conducted by the department in this year by Invited Lecturer.
