Objectives: The mission of our department is not only to provide information about the past events but also through the study of History we are committed to developing in students’ vital skills such as critical thinking, analysis, verbal expression, writing skill and guiding them to build successful careers in areas such as education, law and Government, writing and research.
Vision: History is a study of man. It is concerned with man in time and space. According to modern concept, History does not only contain the history of kings and queens, battles and generals, but also the communities and the societies are the subjects of study of history as well.
It enables students to appreciate the human achievements of the past. Therefore, the vision is to stimulate students’ interest in and enjoyment of exploring the past, to develop a critical understanding of the past and make them aware of the diversity and complexity of human social, cultural, Political Science, and economic institutions both nationally and internationally so that they can build themselves as an active, informed and responsible citizen.
Seminar/Webinar Organized: Prof. Atanu Karmakar from Sri Ramkrishna Sarada Vidya Mahapitha delivered a lecture in ‘One-Day Special Talk’ on ‘Museum Making in Colonial India’ on 25.09.2019. Our department also organized a Students’ Seminar on ‘Gandhi and India’ in 2019.
Special Achievement of the department:
- We published our first Wall magazine GRAFFITI in 5th Sept. 2019.
- Subhadeep Ghosh, the student of History Department stood first in extempore speech in district level competition. He also participated in Student Mock Parliament and stood first for best speech and best voice quality (Participated as a Home Minister).
- 9 students have been successfully graduated from our Department with First Class in 2020 (Non-Semester System) and 6 students have been selected for the Postgraduation Course (regular mode) in 2020 at Vidyasagar University.
